This was my submission for the Materialize Contest, maybe someone can use this substance for something useful. ;-)
To make the displacement work correctly on a plane it should have the same subdivision level as the map resolution (1 poly = 1 pixel).

i am new sorry for that, but what does it mean same subdivision as the map res, you mean the mesh mip map scale?
